The criticism I have for Juno is the same I read elsewhere...the script is a little*too* hip. It's like Kevin Smith writing comic geeks, except more so. Overall, it wasn't a bad movie, though. The acting was pretty solid.

The oscars are in...and here's the tally

Best Picture | Prediction: No Country For Old Men | Result: No Country For Old Men
Best Director| Prediction: Prediction: P.T Anderson | Result: Coen Brothers
Best Adapted Screenplay: Prediction: No Country For Old Men | Result: No Country For Old Men
Best Original Screenplay: Prediction: not Juno | Result: Juno (you'll notice the categories are screwed up so I must've mistaken Juno as in the Adapted Screenplay category...had I seen this error, I probably would've gone for it because there was A LOT of hype around the screenplay. Still goes down as a wrong prediction. Next year I'll be more careful.)
Best Actor: Prediction: Daniel Day Lewis| Result: Daniel Day Lewis
Best Actress: Prediction: Prediction: not predicted | Result: Marion Cotillard
Best Supporting Actor: Prediction: Javier Bardem | Result: Javier Bardem
Best Supporting Actress: Prediction: Tilda Swinton | Result: Tilda Swinton

5/7 ain't bad.

(another note: I see yet another error in the original article... I have two yes predictions for Best Supporting Actor, Javier Bardem and Tom Wilkinson. This error resulted from the use of copy and paste purely for uniformity in the look. The unintended effect resulted in the wrong information being retained. As I am sure you can tell from the article, I did intend to ONLY select Bardem (as the iconic villain) and not Wilkinson (a strong performance, however overshadowed by Swinton). If you have any problems, you can send an email to the complaints department at: backoff@you'retakingthistooseriously.com

Interesting choice on the Sony/BRD... I actually have quite a lot of love for Sony laptops. I have a Sony VAIO VGN-T350P (the really small one) with DVD-R/W and it is perfect for travel. Before that I had a VAIO I used for like 5 years.

So, are you going to get Vista or XP on it? I've got Vista and it Is teh sux0r on my desktop. I think most of my problems are due to some legacy (pre-vista built) hardware, so a laptop built for Vista would probably be decent. As far as user experience, I prefer XP over Vista... it just feels slow and gooy compared to XP. I spend most of my time in OS X, so the difference in look-n-feel between Vista and other OS's is pretty dramatic.

You had me at "Hurricane Alicia". I'm from Galveston btw. Will never forget that. That was the first time I saw the exorcist. That was the only thing on television and the adults were more concerned with boarding up the windows as opposed to keeping track of what was on television. Anyway, great review! :)

This sounds a lot like Carnivà le, the old HBO series. Carnivà le is one of my favorite shows ever, which probably explains why HBO pulled it before it reached its logical end. If you never have seen Carnivà le, go rent it. Let's hope Pushing Daisies is as good.
